How to Circulate ?

Lebanon is a very small country. It can be traveled through in just 3 hours.
Note: once you arrive to Rafic Hariri airport, the simplest thing to do is to take a taxi. You can also rent a car if you know the roads. As for buses, it is more complicated to find them at the airport.

Taxis and “Service Cabs”: Taxis are recognized from their red license plates. You must negotiate the cost of the ride before your departure. You should have the name of the road written in Arabic if possible, in order to be sure that the driver understood where to take you (this is recommended even though the rider might understand French or English). Some taxis are collective (service cabs), they are known as “Services” (pronounced in French). The cost of the ride is divided according to the number of persons in the car.
If you desire to take a taxi from Beirut to a city in Lebanon, there are two departure zones:
- Cola Roundabout: if the destination is the South of the country
- Dora Roundabout: if the destination is the North of the country

The Bus: The bus is a very popular means of transportation. There are many bus companies. Their serving destination is indicated on a sign at the back of the vehicle. It is possible to go via bus from Beirut to other cities in Lebanon from Charles Helou road station (Beirut Port). The Cola Roundabout is also a departure point to go to the suburbs, to Saida, Chtaura, Masna, or even Damascus (Syria).

The car: Driving a car in Lebanon guarantees your autonomy…Even tough it is a bit sporty. There are many car renting agencies. The driver sits on the right. Roads are of many qualities: in general they are quite bad, but in some regions they are quite good. Circulation is very dense in Beirut. It is controlled by the police (dark gray uniform with a cap, or a white helmet if the policeman rides a motorcycle), and the police force (light gray battledress and red beret).
