Official Name: Republic of Lebanon (Lebanese Republic)

Capital: Beirut (the biggest town in Lebanon, with 1.6 million of inhabitants including the suburbs).

Population: around 4 million (last census dates back to 1920!)

Political Regime: Parliamentary Republic, independent since 1943

Other Big cities: Tripoli (around 200 000 inhabitants), Saida (100 000 inhabitants), Tyr (70 000 inhabitants), Zahleh (30 000 inhabitants), Nabatiyyeh (15 000 inhabitants)

Languages: Arabic is the official language of Lebanon, but French and English are so common. Armenian is also spoken.

Religion: 18 confessions that are part of two main religions in the country: Islam and Christianity.
