The Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access WiMax is a new wireless internet access technology still in the process of improvement and expansion. It provides Internet access to underprivileged populations in developing countries. Given its low cost when compared to classical wire technologies, Wimax represents a high-speed connectivity alternative to areas where DSL is not available due to technical or economic limitations. It supplies urban, suburban and rural areas with high-speed internet access. Other countries have also embarked on a similar initiative, namely Tunisia where the renowned operator Tunisie Telecom has successfully installed the first WiMax network in the northern suburb of the capital Tunis early November 2006.
