Flags are everywhere in Lebanon, on cars, balconies, stores. Less than a month to go before the 2010 Worldcup launching, and the “Fever” that will be taking hold of the country. Atmosphere in the streets of Beirut.
There is no doubt here or confusion. The countries’ most supported team in the streets of Beirut is Brazil. You can find everywhere the "Ordem and progresso " flag. Joan works in a taxi-phone where foreign workers go to call their families back home. On his wrist, a bracelet with the colors of Brazil. "All my family supports Germany. I do not really know why I love Brazil. Perhaps it’s because they won the World Cup so many times already... and because they are handsome, "says the young woman.

A few meters away, Rami is ordering a mann'ouché from a bakery. A Brazilian flag is tied to his backpack handle. On the balcony of the building across the street, the same flag, yellow-green-blue floats in the breeze. No risk here really, supporting a team loved by so many. The underdogs of the worldcup are invisible on the streets of the city. Or almost. During our peregrinations, we came across one Algerian flag. Not one of Cameroon or other African country, Asian or Eastern European. According to Georges Hawas Yacine flags vendor located in Sassin, Brazil, Argentina and Germany are the top three teams ! in Lebanon with the most supporters. France, England, Spain, Italy, Por! tugal follow, according to the affinities. Among the causes of support, some mention ties with the country or possession of a passport and the nationality in question, along with, the technical capacity of national teams who benefit from their support, or the presence of a particular player.
