Little by little, Rugby builds its Nest
By Élodie Morel Lebbos
February 08, 2008

The Rugby League came out twelve years ago in Lebanon. It was founded by two brothers (from the Lebanese Diaspora) who formed the Beirut Phoenician club once they went back to England. As for the Rugby League International Federation, it has been trying to generalize more and more this sport in the Cedar Land since five years. This task was assigned to the Londoner Danny Kazandjian who has been trying to render Rugby more popular and protect it from community gaps.

Local Lebanese players are emerging little by little. "High experience is so new to me", said Robin Khushash to Reuters Agency in December 2007. Robin is one of the three Lebanese players who live in Lebanon and who were chosen to be part of the team. He is the only one who participated in the qualifying games. The 25-year-old-player discovered the RL two years ago, when he was spending his vacation in Lebanon during his studies in Russia.

At that time, he saw his brother playing in a university team. "I adore this sport: the physical side of it, the speed, and the good health required to play…" he explained.
