At the end of the First World War, during the French Mandate, the French officers accompanied by the first Lebanese skiers discovered the slides of Mount-Lebanon and Dahr el Baidar.
This sport began really to democratize itself around the 30s when the first Lebanese ski clubs were established. The first ski club in Lebanon is the "Lebanese Club" founded in 1934. In 1935 the firsts ski school opens in the Cedars region, at the hotel Le Grand Cèdre.
The first competitions between the Lebanese ski clubs took place at the slopes of the Cedars, of Laqlouq, Dahr el Baidar and Sannine. The Lebanese skiers participated at the international Competitions the first time in 1947, they participate without any interruption at all the Winter Olympic Games, from Saint-Moritz in 1948 to Albertville in 1992.
Lebanon is also considered since the 60s as an organizer of international events: Lebanon organizes as well the military world ski championships in 1962 and 1972, the Junior Asian Alpine Skiing Championship in 2000. Lebanon was selected as well to host the Winter Asiatic Games in 2009.
