During the post war period, the Lebanese goalkeeping history witnessed great players like Ali Rammal, Ali Fakih, Waheed Fattal, and Bilal Hachem; But Ahmad al Sakr is one of the unique players. He has the skills of an acrobatic athlete who sacrifices to save impossible balls. As for Homenmen team players, soccer analysts say that Korken Yenkebarian, Kevork, Vitali Agassian and Haydar Koleit are the stars that any enemy should be afraid of. Ahmad al Sakr is another star; he is a threat because it is hard for anyone to beat him.
In the Lebanese national team, Ahmad al Sakr was chosen along with Ali Fakih (Ansar team). Both men competed and Fakih was also a shining star that the country team needed. In the 1990s, al Sakr made Lebanon proud by defending his net. Some analysts compared him to a spider that builds his house and closes it entirely. Al Sakr is simply a challenge for big players in the forefront.
The Challenger
Fadi Allouch, Mahmoud Hammoud, Walid Dahrouge, Wartan Ghazarian and many others were very famous names in forward positions: when they used to score against al Sakr, the biggest credit was given to them because they were able to affect Sakr’s keenness. Nowadays, Ahmad is in his early forties; he is playing with al Nejmeh and showing to what extent he is ready to sacrifice for Lebanese soccer, knowing that playing at this age is most likely a hard challenge.
Ahmad al Sakr’s old days were remarkable: when he used to play for his country: Lebanon, he was an unbeaten goalkeeper in many instances against foreign teams. On the 6th of February 2000, Homenmen played against al Nejmeh: the latter won by a score of 1-0. Despite the goal that invaded his net, al Sakr was brilliant in the match. He saved too many dangerous balls prohibiting the giant Lebanese team al Nejmeh from achieving a great result: al Sakr was a rock that any adversary team would desire to beat.
What we can say is that Sakr was a typical goalie who was always ready to represent any team at the right time: he was rarely accused of mishandling his responsibilities because he hardly made mistakes.
As a sum, this player is an example for all Lebanese players. In fact, despite the lack of professionalism in our soccer level, a person like Ahmad al Sakr can overcome obstacles and show that he can shine in any foreign country; goalkeepers like Hammoud Sultan from Bahrain, Abdallah, Mohammed al Deyea from Saudi Arabia, and even Chokri al Ouaer from Tunisia, are not superior to Sakr’s quality: he is a falcon and a winner.
