The term Nejmeh means “star” in English and Nejmeh club was a star in the cloudy sky of Lebanese soccer during the war in Lebanon. Despite everything, al Nejmeh continued to play as much as possible. Players like Mahmoud Hammoud, Youssef Farhat, and Hassan Abboud were prominent actors in the team that tried to survive the internal war.

Our picture represents al Nejmeh club in 1985. The team constituted a major reservoir for the national team. Players residing in Beirut were able to come and practice with the team. The impact of Nejmeh on the Lebanese national team was great.
Al Nejmeh club was established in Beirut in 1945. It received its license in 1947 and reached the first division in 1951. In fact, the team won the Lebanese cup in 1987 and in 1989. Nejmeh was the main reason that urged the Lebanese national team to participate in the 1988 Arab cup. Players coming from the team played at all levels of the ream: like Hassan Abboud who played in the midfield of the national team. Lebanon witnessed war for years and so did Lebanese soccer. However, despite all the local problems, thanks to al Nejmeh club the Lebanese national team was able to shine in the sky of Amman.
