For the second time in its history, the national team of Lebanon won the West Asian Championship that took place in Amman, Jordan from July 19 to July 21, after its great victory (75-64) in the last quarter of the game. The Cedar team is now qualified for the Stankovich Cup (Asian Competition) along with Jordan. Syria was the one to complete the podium after beating the Palestinian team (103-42).

The Lebanese team showed a different face yesterday in front of the Jordanians. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 19-17, whereas the second quarter ended with a score of 24-17. However, the Jordanian team ended the half-time with 35-33, taking advantage of the lack of concentration in the Lebanese team.
The Festival of Ali Mahmoud
Ali Mahmoud did not hesitate to prove his strong presence when his team got back from the dressing room. With 8 points, 16 rebounds, and an excellent fighting spirit, he influenced the Lebanese team, which became more organized and more on its feet. The men of Fouad Abou Chakra played in an excellent way and were ahead of the Jordanians with 14 points of difference at the end of the third quarter (58-44), and 18 points (57-49) six minutes before the end of the game.
As for the “tiger” Fadi el Khatib who was elected best player, he will go back to Lebanon with the rest of the staff for a couple of days to prepare the Toronto tournament that will begin on June 28.
