Beirut : Lebanese Christians carry a portrait of Father James (Jacques) Ghazir Haddad (1875-1954) during his beatification ceremony in central Beirut on June 22, 2008. The Vatican beatified that day the Lebanese Capuchin priest in a ceremony attended by tens of thousands in the Lebanese capital. In addition to founding the Congregation of Franciscan Sisters of the Cross in Lebanon in 1933, the Venerable Father Haddad, or Abouna Yaacoub as he is known in Arabic, founded numerous hospitals, hospices and schools in the tiny east Mediterranean country.
