CARACAS - Venezuela's supreme court said Wednesday it has authorized the extradition of Lebanese national Joseph Gerges el Chabab to Belgium, where he has been convicted in absentia for drug trafficking and organized crime. 

Chabab was captured June 18 in Venezuela on an Interpol arrest warrant, after he fled Belgium, where he was tried for trafficking with cocaine in Belgium and throughout Europe. 

The supreme court statement did not provide any date for the extradition.
