Helem participates in Gay Pride in Paris
July 09, 2008

In the 7th edition of the Gay Pride, the goal was to fight against all kinds of discriminations that the young scholars face at schools.
The parade departed from Denfert-Rochereau square, in the presence of many public political figures.

The parade was voicing their disgust against the discrimination that the young scholars face, whether it was racism or sexist, or xenophobia, lesbophobia, transphobia, and homophobia. The organizers were answering the questions of the journalists who were quite many to witness this occasion that drew thousands of people.

The manifestation this year held a more political message and was a turning point since the fight against all kinds of discrimination is truly a battle for the Inter-LGBT enterprises.

All these personalities were allowed by the organizers to hold, in front of cameras, microphones, and photographers, the banner with these words : “For a School with no Discrimination!”, because they “defend the terms of this claim without any condition”.

Moreover, the manifestation took a communal turn this year. The young gay Jews of Beit Haverim (The Friend’s House in Hebrew, NDRL) were ahead of the Long Yang Club that gathers Asian gays and their friends, and followed by Helem (Dream in Arabic, NDRL), an association that spins connections between of the Lebanese Diaspora gays around the world. As for the Christian gays, they are represented through an association called “David & Jonathan”. The Char militants of the Tjenbé Rèd association were denouncing the “Bad image” of homosexuality, which is particularly disapproved among the French West Indies”.
