Al-Liwaa: some parties advise security forces in the mountain to cancel Aoun’s visit today
iloubnan.info - February 20, 2010

BEIRUT – According to al-liwaa newspaper, some parties advised security forces in the Mountain to cancel Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun’s visit to the region on Saturday in order to preserve calm and stability.

Aoun is expected to pay a visit to the graves of former President Camille Chamoun and his son Dany in Deir al-Qamar. Following this, he will meet with Democratic Gathering bloc leader MP Walid Jumblatt in Mukhtara.

The daily quoted an informed political source who declared that a large number of Christian officials in the Mountain, including MPs Dori Chamoun, Georges Adwan, Fouad Saad, Henri Helou and Antoine Saad are boycotting Aoun’s visit; as well as Chamoun’s supporters who do not want Aoun to visit the Deir al-Qamar cemetery. These issues, according to the source, raise concerns about security in the area during the MPs scheduled visit.
