Lebanon celebrates Independence Day

BEIRUT - Lebanon celebrates Independence Day today in a military parade on the Shafik Wazzan Boulevard in downtown Beirut, which was attended by President Michel Sleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri along other political figures.

Upon the president’s arrival, soldiers fired 21 welcoming shots in the air. Sleiman then placed a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The first show was a show of Hawker Hunter aircraft and helicopters carrying Lebanese flags in the sky of the celebration. The firefighting helicopters also joined the show along the Lebanese Army.
A number of official and military figures were also in attendance in the Independence Day parade.
