Islamists sentenced to death over attack against the Army
AFP / iloubnan.info - October 21, 2009

BEIRUT – The Lebanese Justice issued on Tuesday a death sentence verdict against seven members of Fatah al-Islam group, involved in a bloody attack against the Lebanese Army in 2008, a legal source said.

“The military investigating judge Nabil Sari issued, in his indictment, a judgement sentencing seven accused persons to death”, involved in the attack that cost the lives of 14 persons in August 2008, among others 10 Lebanese soldiers and a child in northern Tripoli city, the source told AFP.

Two among the accused persons were in jail. The magistrate also sentenced others to prison term, some of them to life sentence, out of 14 persons. However, some suspects were still on the lam.

The indicted persons are respectively Lebanese, Syrians and Saudis. They all belong to Fatah al-Islam group that fought against the Lebanese Army in 2007.
