Kandil: FPM represents the majority of Christians
iloubnan.info - September 18, 2009

BEIRUT – After meeting with Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh, former MP Nasser Kandil stated on Friday that the Prime Minister-designate had to hold discussions with the major blocs within all communities. “This means that he must discuss with the Free Patriotic Movement as it represents the Christian majority, just alike the Sunnis who are represented by the Future Movement and the Shiites represented by the Hezbollah-Amal Movement alliance”, he added. He said that equation was stipulated by Article 95 of the Constitution, in order to achieve a just and equal representation of the communities.

Kandil warned that risking that equation would unveil hidden intents. “It could be either a waste of time awaiting potential changes alike an Israeli war, or a maneuver relevant to the international tribunal, or an attempt to fuel sectarian tensions through calling for amending the presidential powers”, he stressed. He hoped, at last, national interests to pass before all aforesaid options.
