BEIRUT – Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan told New TV on Tuesday that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea’s proposal for the national defense strategy during Monday’s dialogue session was not realistic, because “history proved that UNIFIL cannot be considered a defense force and cannot prevent any war.”

In addition, he said the Lebanese people should not fear negotiations between Lebanon, Syria and Israel, because the talks would be in their favor and would pave the way for them to define their own fate.

He also said that if there were a compromise over the peace process in the region, it should be done with Lebanon present, because some controversial issues must to be resolved, such as the Shebaa Farms.
