BEIRUT – PSP leader MP Walid Jumblatt met on Monday with Maronite Patriarche Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir in Bkirki. Speaking after the meeting, Jumblat said they “always kept in touch” despite all circumstances. “We have had many successful political alliances with the Patriarch” he added.
March 14 leader stated that “as the crucial legislative elections approach, the sovereign movement” runs a real danger. He pointed out that “if elections were lost, Rostom Ghazali will be back, running Lebanese affaires from Damascus. But if we won, dialogue regarding the resistance weapons can be pursued. This is the simple message I had today”.
As for his US visit, MP Jumblatt said he understood the US message as Washington seeks to change the Syrian regime behavior. He warned against “the Syrian expertise in wasting time. They know how to start talks, dialogue… We must stick to the Cedar Revolution so that the Israeli-Syrian process doesn’t pass to the detriment of Lebanon”.
