BEIRUT - A Lebanese security official said the Lebanese Intelligence arrested on Sunday a Lebanese suspect in the neighborhood of Palestinian refugee camp of Beddawi in North Lebanon. Speaking to AFP, the source said “he helped Shaker al-Abssi flee Beddawi camp that sheltered him after leaving Nahr el-Bared camp as battles were over against the Lebanese army last year”.
It pointed out that the suspect is a 50-year-old man who helped al-Abssi flee the camp by taking him out of the Lebanese territories in his own white Mitsubishi car. It added that the arrest took place after the testimonials of three suspects handed over to the Lebanese Army at Beddawi camp early this month.
The source added that al-Abssi is the leader of Fatah al-Islam faction that battled against the Lebanese Army in Nahr el-Bared Palestinian refugee camp in North Lebanon for more than three months ending with a big defeat of the faction atop of September 2007.
