Beirut - The Syrian opponent former MP Maamoun El Homsy declared that he survived from a "deliberate act" by the Syrian security service which still remains undisclosed and made him depart from Lebanon after living there for 2 years.

Homsy declared in a statement received by the French Press on Tuesday that, "since the days that devilish cells got to haunt me and track me down (…) and thank God that I survived from an attempted act and came to face a harsh decision which is to depart not due to fear but in order to keep honoring his country".

Homsy, who was appointed the Secretary General for the Beirut bureau of the Syrian opposition, said, "the dictatorship (of Syria) does not know but the language of killing, bombing, torturing and putting to jail along ending lives for those who oppose her".

Homsy told that he left Beirut airborne to Jordan where he "was forbidden from entering and was treated very badly" and took over his luggage, papers and personal lap top confirming that he "will file a report of complaint to the king Abdallah since he refuses "that his national security to be under the control of the Syrian intelligence".

Homsi added that, "they have given him a ticket from Jordan's airport to Washington through Paris".

Syrian opposition figures stressed in a statement issued in Beirut that they did not want to put 'an extra burden on Lebanon, but have no other alternative but to operate from Beirut.'

According to the statement Homsi was appointed Secretary General for the Beirut bureau, Adib Taleb was named secretary and Elias Haddad foreign relations official.

Homsi who was living in Lebanon, spent five years in Syrian jails (2001-2006) and was a contributor to the Beirut-Damascus Declaration of May 2006, calling on the Syrian regime to respect Lebanon's sovereignty and independence.
