BEIRUT - In an interview to LBC, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Hale affirmed that there is no new policy in Lebanon. “The US supports a sovereign, free and independent Lebanon” said Hale. Asked if Washington would give its support to another government if the opposition has the majority in the coming elections, Hale replied “I did not say that”.
Hale added that the US intends to work with all the institutions including the government, the presidency and parliament “to make sure our goals are achieved”.
The purpose of his visit to Beirut was to launch the first joint military committee with Lebanon. The US will provide the Lebanese army with ammunition, trucks and mobile communication systems. He reaffirmed the US’s commitment to offer support to the Internal Security Forces and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Of Michel Suleiman’s visit to Washington last month, Hale said it was “a message of support to Lebanon”.
