While commemorating the 41st anniversary of the beginning of the Lebanese civil war, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri said: “On the 41st commemoration of the outbreak of the civil war, we reiterate that we will not stop working to reinforce civil peace and prevent sedition, to ensure that the war is gone forever. We emphasize our commitment to the Taif agreement that put a final end to the war and turned Lebanon again into a model of coexistence and diversity in a world increasingly characterized by isolation and exclusion.”

Hariri said on “Twitter” that he is confident that “no the loyal Lebanese, from any sect and political affiliation, will allow the return of civil strife under any circumstances”. He added: “The experience of the devastating war taught all the Lebanese that adherence to the state and its institutions is the only way to reach stability, security and a decent life for all the Lebanese”.

He said: “Ending the presidential vacancy as soon as we can will protect our civil peace from being harmed by the wars surrounding us.”

Hariri added: “This painful commemoration is an occasion to pray for the souls of the innocent victims of the war, to stand in solidarity with the wounded, and to reiterate our demand to know the fate of those who were abducted or who disappeared”.

He concluded: “We pray for the soul of Martyr Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, who lit a candle of hope in the darkness of despair and raised the banner of education and reconstruction in the face of the militias.”
