Ashraf Rifi resigned

BEIRUT | February 21, 2016, 14h09

"I, Ashraf Rifi, do hereby tender my resignation to Prime Minister Tammam Salam while remaining steadfast in confronting Hezbollah's statelet," the outgoing Justice minister stressed in a public statement Sunday.

"As our country Lebanon endures under the most dire of crisis-ridden circumstances provoked by status quo forces, they seem bent on totally engulfing the state by working for its disintegration from within, while distorting its outside image, jeopardizing its sovereignty, future and putting inter-Arab relations at risk," he added.

Listing Hezbollah's moves aimed at damaging the Lebanese state while striving to lay party hands on the court system by abusing criminal Michel Samaha Case for its narrow party interests, the statement construed in the piling trash crisis a deliberate ploy by Hezbollah to tarnish Lebanon's image abroad.

Being totally disgruntled with Hezbollah's misconduct over Michel Samaha's Case, Rifi has vowed to go directly to the International Court of Justice in The Hague while working to this effect on a petition here at home. As for Gibran Bassil's refusal to condemn the fire-bombing of Saudi diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad, Rifi perceived in such utterances an expression of a Hezbollah drive aimed at damaging Lebanese-Saudi relations.

Calling for a government apology to the Saudis, Rifi refused to remain on board the cabinet as a false witness to Hezbollah's exactions concluding that he would remain on the side of honorable Lebanese in their quest for salvaging Lebanon so that the state ultimately gains the upper hand over Party-led statelet.
