Speaker Nabih Berri met during his official visit to Romania with the country's President Klaus Iohannis, with discussions reportedly focusing on bilateral ties, regional developments in the Middle East, and the possibility for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Iohannis lauded his country's ties with Lebanon and confirmed the importance of expanding on that relation on all levels, particularly economically through establishing the Lebanese-Romanian-African economic forum.

The President also praised the way Lebanon dealt with the overwhelming influx of Syrian refugees, noting that Europe's stance towards aiding Lebanon must "improve."

"Obviously the solution is through establishing peace in Syria via negotiations; however, this process is complicated for various reasons. There are powers involved in this issue that have varying agendas," Iohannis added.

In turn, Berri agreed that peace was the answer to the Syrian issue, pointing out that a political solution must be imposed through international and regional cooperation in a "6+1 formula at this time, following the 5+1 agreement with Iran."

The Speaker's advice was for Syria to follow Lebanon's example after the civil war and have an accord similar to the one Lebanon held in Taef.

Berri also defended Islam against all terrorist movements.
