In a recent statement, the Lebanese Association for School Safety Awareness (LASSA) said that "In spite of the continued warnings and actual suggestions directed toward the administrators of the public schools, our students are still falling victim to traffic accidents”. This statement comes after the school-bus accident that led to the death of a young student last week in Ain Saadeh (Metn). In the statement, LASSA urged parents and schools to apply “successful and quick solutions to end the death of our children”. LASSA suggested temporary preventative measures for safety and security. For example, schools have to ensure that the drivers have a license corresponding to driving a large vehicle such as a school bus; that the drivers do not consume alcohol; that the maintenance of the vehicle is strictly followed.

Among other safety measures, LASSA also urged parents to avoid speeding, even when they are late. The association also said that parents who drive their children to school should ensure the use of seatbelts and tell their children to behave reasonably when they wait for the bus after school. LASSA also said in its statement that children should follow safety measures such as not entering or leaving a moving bus, not putting their heads or hands outside the windows and not standing or walking around in the bus.
