Rabih Kayrouz: fashion designer and poet
By Alia El Kaïssi
January 15, 2008

Cannes Festival 2007: the ladies of the Lebanese delegation went up the stairs dressed in Rabih Kayrouz’s creations. Who is this designer whose dresses seem to be crafted from a fusion of genres? Celebrating the tenth anniversary of his career in the couture world this year, Kayrouz welcomes us in his atelier in Gemmayzeh.

Rabih Kayrouz welcomes you as a friend, a confidante, a woman with whom he will search for the perfect dress, a woman whose personality he will unravel and to whom he would want to be genuine throughout the creative process.

Rabih Kayrouz settled in his atelier in 1998. He had discovered this space in an old building in the Gemmayzeh area at a time when it was still a quiet neighborhood that very few people took notice of. He decorated his atelier and launched his own couture house in 2003. In this high ceiling haven where pastel and screaming colors alternate on the walls and neon lights illuminate the space with a clear and defined glow, the designer walks simply in your direction, he wants to “understand you”.

Rabih is a fun loving person who, above all, likes to tell stories. If the dresses he drew, the tailor-made creations he designed and the flower embroidered wedding dress he created for this or that young woman were not inspired by a poetic thread, this designer would probably not have been even interested in exerting his know-how. There is something truly unique in his overall approach to the craft and to his career; a career which tenth anniversary he celebrates this very year!
