Jewels in the Middle East: History and Tradition

Nice or simply symbolic, jewels are part of human history. Here is a flashback about these small items that, in the region currently called Lebanon. developed under the influence of Mediterranean civilizations.

Human attraction towards jewels goes back to prehistory. Between -18000 and -10000, men made more and more pendants: in the beginning, pendants were sort of irregularly shaped rings cut in bone or ivory. Later on, some pendants took an oval form made of bone or stone with carved borders like lace; some other pendants wee oval made of polished pebbles (representing femininity).
