Mounir Moufarrige is a contented businessman: with a very busy schedule, he rarely finds a minute to himself. He spends his time between Paris, London and Florence keeping a steady eye on current trends and thinking already of the future. Born in Bichmizzine, a city north of Lebanon, Mounir Moufarrige is the new president of Emmanuel Ungaro, a position leveling with both the ambition and the journey of the 58 year old jurist.
The Eighties: Moufarrige represents Richemont group’s Dunhill brand name in the Middle-East and in Africa. He grows within the Richemont group in the United States and Europe.
1997: Montblanc is on the rise again thanks to Moufarrige’s contribution. He then joins Chloé which profits quadruple owing to designer Stella McCartney.
2002: He establishes, with François Barthes, France Luxury Group under which umbrella he gathers griffes such as Scherrer, Jacques Fath, Harel and Emmanuel Khan. He then sells his shares one year later just when he had made profit and accomplished his mission.
2003: He takes over Worth, the renowned underwear firm, and owns in parallel the fascinating luggage-maker Goyard along with its 12 representative branches worldwide. These two reputed centenarian firms constituted a varied base for Moufarrige’s ativities.
End of 2005: Moufarrige becomes minority shareholder of Ungaro via the investment unit of pakistano-American Asim Abdullah: AIMZ. His appointment as head of the French couture house based on Montaigne Avenue in Paris will then be a mere formality. The Norwegian designer Peter Dundas joins the label at the end of 2005 with the new owners, as creative director. Ungaro achieves a turnover of 70 million euros: in December 2005, perfume sales constitute 10 to 15 million euros of total earnings. The label employs close to a hundred people worldwide and Moufarrige aims at drawing a first assessment end of 2007, beginning of 2008.
Today, Ungaro is only one of Moufarrige’s activities as he is also dedicated to the excellence of Goyard trunks, the fineness of Worth underwear and the precision of U-Boat watches. “I believe in diversification: I think it is enriching” he explains.
