Rabih Kayrouz: the sponsor of four young designers
iloubnan.info - August 27, 2008

Under the patronage of Rabih Kayrouz, a fashion show was held at “Jardins du Mzaar “, Faraya, on Saturday July 16, to let the four young designers, Krikor Jabotian, Lara Khoury, Rami Kadi et Missak Hajiavedikian, exhibit their collections. The skilled fashion designer wanted to sponsor these four new talented people, by giving them the chance to let their imagination and creativity lead them.

The tents of the handcrafted exhibition, which takes place every year in Faraya and gathers Lebanese creative artists, were also set in the enchanting garden of Mzaar.

Some exhibitors presented their fashion designs (clothes, costume jewelry, bags…); while others proposed collages, designed objects, paintings, candles… The stream of visitors strolling in the paths was unceasing; happiness and good temper were obvious in the event.

In the area reserved for the fashion show, on the lawn, we were able to see big white sails delineating the public area from the backstage on one hand; and, cameramen and photographers in front of the podium on the other hand. Chairs were put on the grass so that models could walk between the spectators.

At 6 o’clock, few minutes before the show began, everybody was seated … Music: the curtains were raised, the fashion show started. The spotlight flashes… The photoflash “crackles”, the camera is activated, and all eyes are riveted on the models walking on the podium with red pure lips and white make up on their faces’ upper parts. Then, the audience was carried to a different world, a more oriental world with the sound effect of the Oud and the Derbouka. The designs that closed the fashion show were more kitsch, just like the fifties and seventies styles.

Gradually, models walked toward the public, sometimes twirling, sometimes with a classic walk on the podium, and sometimes with a pause… Creativity and originality lured the public’s eyes. Everything was carefully prepared just like in the big fashion shows. Nothing was left to chance: music, make-up, hairstyle, mise en scene… Young talents that should absolutely be seen!

Young designers and their models savored the congratulations and the clapping of the spectators and then left. Curtains closed.
