A singer, a songwriter, a dancer and everything it takes to be a successful pop star, Shakira the first Latin singer is melting hearts away worldwide with her dazzling perfomances and hit singles.

She was as Born on February the second in 1977 as Shakira Isabel Mebarak, an only child from a Colombian Mother and a Lebanese decent father. Shakira showed signs of musical talent while she was still so young singing and dancing at school. She was raised in Northern Colombia. She is a native Spanish speaker but fluent in Arabic, English and Portuguese. Her Lebanese heritage influenced her music greatly and was a major role for her international breakthrough with Ojos Asi where she included Arabic lyrics to the song.

Singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and dancer since the early 90’s releasing her first album Magia recorded with Sony Music. In 2001 she broke the pop scene worldwide with her album Laundry Service. In Laundry Service she collaborated with Gloria Estephan, the album hit the world music scene by storm and made her climb on top of international charts. With her following album Oral Fixation vol 1 in 2005, Shakira released the unforgettable hit single La Tortura featuring Alejandro Sanz. La Tortura became the most successful Spanish song worldwide. Later she released Oral Fixation Vol.2 which includes the hit singles Don’t Bother and My Hips Don’t Lie. In 2006, shakira worked also with Alejandro Sanz for the duet “Te lo Agradezco, Pero No” a romantic tune. Later Shakira worked with Beyonce Knowles on Beautiful Liar, the song was major hit and earned a Grammy Award nomination.

Shakira is currently the only Colombian singer to be known worldwide and selling more than 50 million album so far. Her barefoot Arabic belly dancing is what makes her live performances so unique and attracting all viewers’ attention.

She won so far two Grammy Awards, and eight Latin Grammy Awards and fifteen Billboard Music Awards, three MTV video Music Awards, People’s Choice Award. Shakira promised her fans earlier this year to start working on February 2008 for her new album.
