BEIRUT - “Mr. Saniora is a sectarian man and he is ruining the state” declared Michel Aoun during a press conference on Friday. He added “Let him submit to financial audit if he wishes to challenge me”. The MP accuses Saniora of using Higher relief Council money to help parliamentary candidates. 

As for reconciliation between Christian parties, Aoun stressed that he “has no problem with anybody”. In his speech, Aoun also mentioned Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir and pointed out that he did accept the Honor Agreement as well as Bkerke’s fundamentals. Aoun was referring to a comment made by the Patriarch who recently declared that his previous reconciliation efforts had failed when he reached “a vital point everybody disavowed”.

Aoun defends Syria’s “right to take measures along the border”, he added that Lebanon should do the same. Concerning the adoption of a new electoral law, Aoun hopes that no new law regarding municipalities is adopted in 2013.
