BEIRUT - FIve days after the Tripoli car bomb explosion, Ziad Baroud assured that investigations are underway, however, he refused to intervene in the judiciary details. Interior Minister told LBC television on Thursday: “that would be breaching the investigation process”.

He stressed the importance of controlling the spread of weapons, calling on the cabinet to solve security difficulties and pointing out that he was coordinating with Hezbollah whenever necessary.

Relations between Syria and Lebanon have improved since the election of President Michel
Sleiman, Ziad Baroud adds that all contacts between the two countries should be made through official channels.

Concerning the issue of political banners and images, Baroud informed LBC that the process on taking them down was ongoing and will be implemented citywide.

Finally, Baroud called for the formation of a constitutional council who will have the responsibility of following up the parliamentary elections in 2009. He is also in favor of the creation of a national independent committee to carry out the electoral process instead of the Interior Ministry.
