BEIRUT - In a press release, Future MP Azzam Dandachi said that he was skeptical of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s participation in Thursday’s quadripartite talks in Damascus.
Dandachi said that Assad’s recent actions were a retreat from the Doha Agreement. According to the Future MP, the Syrian President is trying to nullify the decision to establish diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Syria, announced last month when President Sleiman visited Damascus.
Dandachi declared that Assad had “reincarnated” himself as President Michel Sleiman in order to act as the only arbiter in Lebanese internal issues. Dandachi said Assad wanted to be able to approve or reject all security and diplomatic decisions made in Lebanon.
“It was an attempt to trap President Sleiman and reveal that he obeys Syrian will like his predecessor,” Dandachi said.
Azzam Dandachi added that Lebanon was waiting for a clear reaction from Sleiman regarding Assad’s attempts to undercut his authority.
