BEIRUT - While commenting on Speaker Nabih Berri’s Sunday speech during the ceremony marking the anniversary of Imam Moussa Sadr’s, General coordinator of the March 14 coalition, former MP Fares Soueid, told Future News TV on Tuesday that Berri’s suggestion of forming Lebanese army-Resistance coordination committees “brings us back to the civil war, when committees met at the Mathaf [an area of Beirut].”
According to Soueid, Syria indirectly interfered in the recent events in the North through its intelligence services. Violent incidents happened in Akkar last week end. He declared : “We need the United Nations Security Council to pressure Syria to stop its interferences.” He added that Tripoli “must be disarmed to ensure its security”. Security in Tripoli should be one of the main issued to be discussed at the Grand Serail meeting on Tripoli on Tuesday, he said.
