Beijing Olympics: The Lebanese sadness
By Mhamad Ezzedine

Apart from the judoka Rudy Hachache who wasn’t that bad on the Chinese tatamis, it is worth noting, five days before the ending ceremony, that the report of the Lebanese sportsmen seems a bit “disappointing”. Here is an overview of the respective results.

Shots: in the Skeet event, the Lebanese marksman Ziad richa came 29th on Saturday with a score of 111 points, which is 38 points less than the winner of the event, the American Vincent Hancock. After his success with a score of 24, 22, and then 23 on the first day, which made him reach the 20th position in the classifications, Richa’s score sharply dropped Saturday to reach 23 and 19 on the second day.

Judo: Rudy Hachache is the only Lebanese who played his game successfully. After being crushed Friday in the first round by the future bronze medal winner, the Cuban Oscar Brayson, Rudy Hachache was then able to beat the Peru champion Carlos Zeggara before losing once again against the Brazilian Joao Schlittler. When he arrived, our national champion came 9th in the general classification of the +100kg category; which is not bad for a person who stopped Judo for seven years!

Athleticism: Mohammed Siraj Tamim came 7th in his 200m category Monday in the first round, ahead of an Uzbek and an athlete from Nicaragua.
Gretta Taslakian was supposed to enter the scene today in the birds nest at 6h20 (Beirut timing). She is in the 6th series of qualification in the 200m category.
