Source : Alpha Report 2007, Audi Bank
For the first time in 25 years, Blom Bank lost its predominance in total assets to the advantage of Audi Bank (which also comes in the first position in total deposits, credits, and capital stock). This comes as a logic result for the differential policies implemented by the two giants of the Lebanese banking sector. As a matter of fact, Audi increased the number of acquisitions (including that of Saradar recently) and expanded abroad. On the other hand, Blom focused on internal growth, without any acquisitions… before opening up to the neighboring countries. As a result, Audi found itself one step ahead of Blom, although Blom’s profitability remains higher. For the other places, there is no significant change. The 10 first banks represent almost 75% of the sector (depending on the selected standards).
