BEIRUT - According to a report published by Electricité de France (EDF), Lebanon should progressively increase its production of electricity to 2.220 megawatts so that the country covers it needs till 2022.
EDF asked the Cedar Land to establish new power stations and restructure the ones in Zouk and Jiyeh.
The first suggestion of the French company was to rehabilitate the station of Zouk to cover the energy consumption of the country till 2022.
EDF also plans to close the power station of Jiyeh progressively from now till 2014.
Moreover, EDF proposed the inverse solution, which consists of the rehabilitation of the Jiyeh power station and the gradual closing of the Zouk station. The French energy company also plans to rehabilitate the two power stations.
On the other hand, Egypt announced that it will provide Lebanon with 200 megawatts of electricity and natural gas. This electricity will be part of the regional energy project that links Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Turkey.
The Egyptian gas, which was expected to arrive to Lebanon in June or July, should finally be distributed at the power station of Beddawi in Tripoli, during the fall season.
