According to the daily newspaper “L’Orient-Le Jour”, the syndicate of public works contractors declared yesterday its first cautionary strike next Wednesday.followed by an escalation, if the authorities do not consider the contractors’ demands.

The latter, who decided, previously, not to participate anymore in the public offering process, feel harmed by the increase of raw material prices that are not reflected in the public contracts of 2004 till 2007. They denounce as well the “injustice” of the index of raw materials, elaborated by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR), which takes into consideration the international prices and not the local ones.

In fact, the director of the Lebanese Contractors Syndicate declared to the newspaper “Daily Star” that the CDR as well as the related Ministries are not seriously studying this price rise, leaving the contractors suffering alone from the global price fluctuations.
