For 4th consecutive year, cost of living in Beirut remains high

BEIRUT | iloubnan.info, with agencies - October 30, 2014, 10h52
According to EuroCost’s International’s 2014 survey on expatriates’ cost-of-living, Beirut ranked 14th place globally for the third consecutive year.
The same studies also show that Beirut remains the most expensive city in the Middle East for expatriate cost-of-living since the survey that was completed in 2010.

The survey, mentioned by Byblos Bank's Lebanon This Week, compares expatriates’ living costs in major locations worldwide. Costs include rent but exclude education and healthcare. Considering the high costs of education and healthcare, had these two factors been included in the study, we suppose the expenses would be significantly higher.

Beirut is the only city from the Middle East among the 20 most expensive cities globally in terms of expatriates' cost-of-living, while Tel Aviv was the second most expensive Middle Eastern city and ranked in 24th place worldwide. Overall, studies showed an increase in the ranks of five cities, the decline of 14, and the stability of seven. Additionally, four new cities were introduced to the top 30 this year.
