PARIS - Youssef Chahine, the Lebanese origin director, known for his Egyptian motion pictures, suffered a brain hemorrhage on Monday 16th of June. He is currently listed in a delicate condition in the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, west of Paris.
The 82-years-old Chahine, born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1926, studied in the friars' school. After achieving his High School Certificate he spent one year at the University of Alexandria and then moved to the States where he attended the Pasadena Play House for two years to benefit from their courses on film and dramatic arts.
Since 1950, Chahine has made more than 25 films and was rewarded in Cannes Film Festival and Carthage for his noble achievements.
Baba Amin was his film debut in 1950, when he came back to Egypt.
Only one year later he joined Cannes Film Festival with his movie Ibn el Nil in 1951.
In 1970, he was awarded a Golden Tanit at the Carthage Festival.
Through al-Mohager and al-Massir, Chahine recorded a huge success in the 90's.
