Bilal Tarabay wins 1st Prize of Photomed photography contest

As part of its Lebanese edition, Photomed, the Festival of Mediterranean Photography, organized a contest for Lebanese photographers resident in Lebanon.

The results were announced at the Institut français du Liban in Beirut by Philippe Heullant, President of Photomed and Serge Akl, Vice-President of Photomed and Director of the Lebanese Tourism Office in Paris.

Eric Lebas, Cultural Attaché at the French Embassy, pointed out that: “This contest is a chance to show the talent of young photographers and offer them both national and international visibility. Additionally, the number of applicants has doubled since last year which indicates a growing interest in this contest and a great recognition for young photographers.”

The contest also highlights the valuable partnership between the Institut français du Liban and Photomed, joining the primary mission of the Lebanese Tourism Office in Paris, co-organizer, which is to create cultural exchanges and a bridge between Lebanon and France.

The First Prize was won by Bilal Tarabay who is going to have the opportunity to exhibit his work at the upcoming Photomed Festival in Sanary in France which will take place in May 2016.

About this great achievement, Tarabay declared: «The portfolio I presented was very intimate and I didn’t think for second of winning; I am very proud to represent Lebanon in France during Photomed.” 

As for Lama Mattar who received the second prize, her work will be exhibited during the 2nd semester of 2016 at the gallery of the Institut français du Liban. She said, expressing her joy: “This prize represents an occasion to show my work. It is a great opportunity to debut in this artistic adventure, and I would like to thank the Photomed team for believing in my project.”

Photomed Festival is held under the high patronage of H.E. Michel Pharaon, Minister of Tourism and co-organized by the Lebanese Tourism Office in Paris and in partnership with Byblos Bank. 

The Festival runs until February 10, 2016 and presents the works of international and Lebanese photographers in the following venues: Hotel Le Gray with Elsie Haddad, Beirut Exhibition Center with Toni Catany, Alvaro Sanchez-Montanes, Luis Vioque, the photographers from the collection of the famous Spanish actor Gabino Diego, Antoine d’Agata, Alessandro Puccinelli and Angelo Antolino and the Lebanese galleries that were honored for their work: Galerie Tanit with Gilbert Hage and Lamia Maria Abillama, Galerie Janine Rubeiz with Lara Tabet and Myriam Boulos, Galerie Art Factum with Caroline Tabet and Tanya Traboulsi, Galerie Agial with Waddah Faris and Hady Sy, Galerie Alice Mogabgab with Tony Hage, the Byblos Bank Headquarters with Edouard Boubat, the Institut français du Liban with Emma Grosbois and Arno Brignon, and at Station with Karim Sakr and Randa Mirza and the art video exhibition «Mediterranean Expressions. From Poetry to Politics » that presents the works of Ange Leccia, Béatrice Pediconi, Louidgi Beltrame, and Danielle Arbid.
